In around ten days, no fewer than 60 mosaics were installed by the street artist in the Basque country (southwest of France).
In photo above, a work by Invader in Bayonne, in the colors of the Basque Country Was he going to go as far as 64, the number of the Pyrénées Atlantiques department? Well for the moment no, it stopped at 60, which is already very significant for the region, especially since almost exclusively the mosaics were installed either in Biarritz or in Bayonne.
Magnificent Invader on the main beach of Biarritz Beginning on November 8, the invasion immediately captured the attention of fans and lovers of contemporary art. Experienced “flashers” even came specially from Paris to be the first to take photos of the works with the artist’s application Flashinvaders. They then began to travel the Basque coast day and night (Biarritz, Anglet, Bayonne, Guethary, Bidart) to find the works of the famous street artist. Invader began his career in 1999, and for 25 years he has traveled the world “exhibiting” his works for all to see. Today it is almost impossible not to recognize the little invaders, inspired by the 80s video game Space Invaders, which made the artist successful.
Pictured above, a work by Invader in Bayonne It is striking to see the graphic difference between the works of Biarritz and Bayonne. In Biarritz the works are more colorful and focused on surf culture, while in Bayonne the artist took care to keep the aesthetics of Basque culture. Basque green and red are in the spotlight, and many mosaics feature the Basque flag or beret. Biarritz, Anglet and Bayonne thus join the list of cities in the southwest of France invaded by the artist, along with Toulouse, Pau, Contis-les-Bains and Cap Ferret. We can also cite Bilbao, in the Spanish Basque Country.
